The Detroit Red Wings’ push for a playoff spot enters its final week, with the Montreal Canadiens coming to town on Monday.
Entering the final week of the regular season, the Detroit Red Wings (39-32-9) are one of four teams in contention for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. As play begins on Monday they’re tied with the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers with 87 standings points, but Washington currently has the tiebreaker over the other two and therefore holds that final Wild Card spot. Every point will matter from here on out, starting with Detroit’s Monday night matchup against the Montreal Canadiens (30-36-14) at Little Caesars Arena – the first of a home-and-home between the two teams to close out the season.

The Red Wings come into this game on a two-game point streak. Their last game was on Saturday in Toronto where they beat the Maple Leafs 5-4 in overtime. Right wing Alex DeBrincat scored two goals for Detroit in that game, while center Dylan Larkin delivered the game-winner in OT.
For Montreal, this is the final game of a three-game road trip. In the first two games, the Canadiens lost in overtime to the New York Islanders and in a shootout to the Ottawa Senators.
