How to Watch Live College World Series Finals Game 2: Mississippi State vs. Vanderbilt Preview & Betting Odds

In the immortal words of the news broadcasting legend Ron Burgundy “Well that escalated quickly.” That was the feeling in the air at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in the first game of the College World Series final between Vanderbilt and Mississippi State. The Bulldogs faithful traveled brilliantly as it seemed half of the stadium was wearing maroon. Vanderbilt silenced them quickly though when they scored seven in the first inning alone cruising to an 8-2 victory.

How to Watch Mississippi State-Vanderbilt

The Bulldogs starter Christian MacLeod didn’t make it out of the first inning where unfortunately made history by becoming the first starter to ever do that in the College World Series. The Commodores starter Jack Leiter really only had one blemish in an otherwise stellar performance giving up a homer in the top-half of the first inning. He struck out eight, leaving him just four shy of David Price’s school record of 194. That was likely Leiter’s last game as he will likely be drafted high like Price in the upcoming MLB Draft in the middle of July.

The Mississippi State bats are going to come out swinging like they’re accustomed to if they are going to even this series. They have a nearly 30 points higher team batting average than Vandy. The problem is that Vanderbilt has a 2.20 team ERA compared to Mississippi State’s 5.51 team ERA. Mississippi State has played in the College World Series in each of the last six decades as one of the country’s best baseball programs. They still have yet to win a title though and to get back in this series they are hoping for any starter other than Kumar Rocker.

It would be tempting to for Vanderbilt to start their other ace Rocker but he would be starting on only three days rest. They have options though and if Vanderbilt can’t close it out in Game 2, then expect Rocker no doubt in Game 3. It seems difficult for the Bulldogs to best Rocker so after last night’s win, the Commodores are in the driver’s seat to go back-to-back and defend their 2019 title. Even if Vanderbilt doesn’t win game two.
