How to Watch College World Series Game 3: Mississippi State vs. Vanderbilt

That is more like what we were expecting from Mississippi State. In Game 1 of the College World Series Finals, the Bulldogs bats went dormant as Vanderbilt ace Jack Leiter was able to silence this tremendous offense. That couldn’t be farther from the case in Game 2. After a lengthy rain delay, Vanderbilt seemed to be in a milase and they couldn’t pitch to save their lives. This game was over in the third inning when Mississippi State tacked on four and then five more in the seventh to win 13-2. Neither game in this series has been remotely close so let’s hope the rubber match for all the marbles will be a better contest.

The Mississippi Bulldogs have never won a national championship, in any sport. They have one of the best baseball programs in the nation making the CWS in each of the last six decades, but have never pulled it all together to win a title. Now they are one win away from changing all of that. The most famous Bulldog, Dak Prescott was in the house to bring some good luck to his alma mater and it worked in spades. Mississippi State’s team batting average is almost 30 points better than Vandy’s and they will need to ride some of that offensive momentum from Game 2 if they want to end their championship drought.

That’s going to be more difficult this time around because Vanderbilt will likely start their other ace in this one, Kumar Rocker. He was coming off three days rest is why he probably didn’t start Game 2 but now that it’s the last game of the season and a defending title is on the line, you can nearly guarantee that Rocker will go in this one. He was part of a staff that had the best ERA through the first five games of the CWS at 1.91 except for NC State. You know the Wolfpack are still upset that they got disqualified from the final because of positive COVID-19 tests. Alas, Vanderbilt is going to need their bats to step up most if they are going to win the ship as they are only batting .211 going into yesterday’s game. Four hits all night in Game 2 didn’t inspire any confidence. It will be a battle of Mississippi State’s bats against Vanderbilt’s arms to decide it all.
