How to Watch Live Game 3: Vegas Golden Knights at Montreal Canadiens
It's been a long journey to the top for the Canadiens this entire season. They look to take the lead against the Vegas Golden Knights as this series shifts back to Montreal. ANDRE PICHETTE/EPA

You think the team to be playing with house money in this series would naturally be the Vegas Golden Knights. After their resounding 4-1 victory in Game 1 it seemed that nothing could stop Vegas. Maybe the team was overconfident though going into Game 2 after winning five games in a row after being five minutes away from being down 0-3 in their previous series against the Colorado Avalanche. Montreal completely defied expectations and stole one on the road in Vegas winning 3-2 to tie the series.

Defying expectations is indicative of the Canadiens entire playoff run though. They had the least amount of points barely making it to headed into the Stanley Cup playoffs. At one point it was so bad fired their head coach mid-season and named Dominique Ducharme interim head coach. They are going to defy odds even more as this series shifts to Montreal as the Canadiens will be without their head coach at least for Game 3.

Coach Ducharme was isolating at home before the game and was later confirmed to test positive right before puck-drop. The entire team including Ducharme received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine but hadn't reached the full two weeks of efficacy. The rest of the team has tested negative and is not expected to miss any players. We hope for quick health for Ducharme. If anything seems for certain though is that Ducharme's interim title won't last very long beyond this season.

Montreal won't have the advantage of the packed house that the Golden Knights have enjoyed in this series. Canada is not in the same position as the United States when it comes to the virus. Quebec has allowed the Centre Bell to host 3,500 fans with 250 people per section. That is an improvement over there last series when the crowd was limited to a few hundred people. They weren't supposed to storm back against the division-winning Maple Leafs. They certainly weren't supposed to sweep the Winnipeg Jets. Regardless of the circumstances, the Canadiens keep defying If they keep playing with this kind of reckless abandon, they'll be playing in their first Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1993.
