A win's a win. Right? It's a pretty weak expression but it applies here. Well it applies to the second game of this series. The Yankees won their first game of the second half in six inning rain against the arch nemesis. It helps when you have your ace on the mound in Gerrit Cole. But it was New York's first win against Boston this year. Before that their record against the Red Sox was 0-7 and their run differential head-to-head 40-17. The Yankees ERA against the Sox is 5.31. Comparatively the Red Sox ERA was 1.69 against the Yankees.

It might not be all gloom and doom for Yankees fans as they have a good chance to win this series in the rubber match of this series for Sunday Night Baseball. Martin Perez and James Taillon are the projected starters for this one and later has an ERA closer to five. Perez is a lot closer to four but it might be safe to take the over of 9.5 projected for this game. Even though the Yankees aren't at full strength with Aaron Judge still out due to COVID protocols. Winning this series would be a huge step in getting the Yanks out of their malaise and project confidence that they can get back in the AL East.
Boston winning just reaffirms their stranglehold on the division. It is amazing the turnaround this group has had under skipper Alex Cora. While he was suspended last year with his involvement in the Astros 2017 cheating scandal, the Sox were 24-36 in the shortened season. Dead last in the division. It helps that Eduardo Rodriguez and J.D. Martinez have got back to their ways before the pandemic, but what they are doing under Cora is just spectacular.
Whether he should be coaching at all might be a topic for another article, but he was definitely the right choice to lead Boston. Whatever happens in this series, it is likely that we will see Boston back in the playoffs again just after they picked fourth in the 2021 MLB Draft. What a turnaround for the ages.
