The Nuts opened the second half in style with a ninth-inning comeback win over the Grizzlies
The Grizzlies (41-26) won the first-half title in the California League’s North Division, but opened the second half on a down note, losing a ninth-inning lead in a loss to the Nuts (31-36) on Friday night. The teams resume their series, which bridges the two halves of the campaign, on Saturday night at Chukchansi Park in Fresno.

Fresno, the Class-A affiliate of the Rockies, led 8-7 going into the top of the ninth before Modesto, a Mariners affiliate, struck for three runs in the frame for a 10-8 victory. Robert Perez Jr. singled in the tying and go-ahead runs and Colin Davis added an insurance tally with a ground-rule double.
The Grizzlies took the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Juan Guerrero singled home Hunter Goodman after climbing back from a 7-0 deficit.
Right-hander William Fleming is scheduled to start Saturday for Modesto. in 13 starts, he is 5-6 with a 5.11 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 61.2 innings. Last time out, Fleming took the loss after surrendering seven runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings against Lake Elsinore on June 18.
Fresno will go with 19-year-old right-hander Victor Juarez. In 11 starts, he is 4-1 with a 3.36 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 56.1 innings. Juarez is coming off his first loss of the season after surrendering seven runs on nine hits in four-plus innings at San Jose on June 18.
