The Mets win on Monday night came with a strong bookending performance from their lineup. New York scored three times in the first inning to jump out to an early advantage and four times in the ninth to close things out.
Every player in the Mets starting lineup recorded a hit in the game, but third baseman Eduardo Escobar was the standout. Escobar hit for his first career cycle, going 4-for-5 with six RBIs and three runs.
With that win, the Mets extended their NL-best record to 38-19. The Padres are now 33-22, which is good for second place in the NL West, but the third-best record in the National League behind only the Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, who are 35-19.
