This year the UConn Huskies made their 13th-straight Final Four appearance. The Arizona Wildcats made their first Final Four appearance in school history. The Huskies had every advantage but Arizona would not be deterred securing a resounding victory in their Final Four matchup that everyone counted them out. It wasn't just an upset. It was pretty much domination for most of the game. Arizona was up 14 points in the third quarter which put the Huskies in their biggest deficit of the season. The Wildcats won by double digits in the end and will be headed to their first national championship in program history.

#3 Arizona Wildcats vs. #1 Stanford Cardinal - 6:00 p.m. ET - ESPN - National Championship

This Arizona team has been underestimated at every turn this tournament. The last time the program made the tournament was in 2005. Before this season, the farthest they've ever advanced was the Sweet 16 in 1998. In both the Women's and Men's game this year, they are the biggest underdog that went the farthest in 2021. In the huddle after the victory against UConn was secured, coach Adia Barnes flipped the bird and to paraphrase, told her team to forget everybody that didn't believe in them. She said the only thing that matters is that they believe in this team.

She is not apologizing for her reaction and frankly she has nothing to apologize for. There is an undeniable zeal with this team and they play with abandon. They leave it all on the court and their enthusiasm and grit is something to admire and root for regardless of underdog status. Outside of their win against BYU in their second game of the tournament, they've dominated their competition. Including another upset against Texas A&M.  Why not these Wildcats? If they can beat UConn, they can beat anyone including Stanford in the National Championship game.

That's because UConn was playing the best coming into the Final Four. But the game between Stanford and South Carolina quickly became the best game of the semifinals. Really it was one of the best games of the tournament. Stanford was up one with less than 10 seconds left in regulation. All they had to do was inbound the ball and hold on. Instead they turned it over with the Gamecocks securing the steal and drove up the court. They had a layup opportunity but missed it and the putback was no good. Stanford held on in a thriller.

Arizona will face their familiar Pac-12 foe in Stanford the championship. The Wildcats lost to Stanford twice in the regular season but the first game they played they only lost by three. Stanford just has a great offense and they looked the part in the Final Four even though they needed some luck at the end. Both schools haven't won in quite some time as even Stanford hasn't been to the title game since 2010 and hasn't brought home the hardware since 1992. Stanford again will be the overwhelming favorite going into the National Championship. Arizona has shown that's the narrative that helps them thrive in these tough matchups. This finale is anyone's game.
