The main event of the day in the first round of the 2024 Chipotle Nationals features top-ranked recruit Cooper Flagg and Montverde Academy from Florida taking on AZ Compass Prep out of Arizona. This season the Eagles went undefeated and finished at the top of the rankings in Florida, which has several of the top-ranked national teams in the country. Flagg (Duke) has led one of the most talented classes from one program in years with center Derick Queen (Maryland), Liam McNeeley (uncommitted) and Asa Newell (Georgia) who are ranked 10th, 11th and 12th overall in the Class of 2024. That quartet looks to lead the Eagles to a run to the championship here at the 2024 Chipotle Nationals starting today.

This season Flagg has been the main event of high school basketball and is already being projected as a lottery pick, even the number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He finished the McDonald’s All-American Game with just eight points, but deferred to Queen who led all scorers with 23 points.

That dynamic group from the Eagles will be challenged by the Dragons and their star Vyctorius Miller. This season Miller finished as the 41st ranked recruit as a dynamic wing. He is uncommitted as well, with offers from Gonzaga, LSU, Oregon and USC to play for next season in college. 

The winner of this first round match-up will move on to play the winner of the fourth-seeded Long Island Lutheran and fifth-seeded Columbus in the semifinals. If the Eagles and Explorers move on to the semifinals there is potential for an all-Florida semifinal in their half of the bracket with seventh-seeded IMG Academy also in the field on the other side of the bracket.
