Texas Motor Speedway, no longer hosting a playoff race, set for the NASCAR Xfinity Series Andy’s Frozen Custard 300, with qualifying set for Friday evening
The NASCAR Xfinity Series returns to Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth this weekend less than seven months since its last visit. The Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 moved from the fall to the spring for the 2024 schedule after hosting playoff races since the series added a postseason in 2016. The move brings spring racing back to Texas after the track lost its spring race after the 2022 season. The 1.5-mile quad-oval in Fort Worth opened in 1996 and NASCAR’s second-tier series has raced there since 1997, with two races annually from 2005-22. Aric Almirola threw his hat in the playoff ring with a victory at Martinsville last week, becoming the third Xfinity driver to provisionally qualify for the postseason.

John Hunter Nemechek, now driving full-time on the NASCAR Cup Series, won the Andy’s Frozen Custard 300 for the second time in three years last September, finishing 1.005 seconds better than Parker Kligerman in the Round of 8 playoff race. He was the fourth multiple winner of the race, joining Kevin Harvick (four), Kyle Busch (three) and Brad Keselowski (two).
The 200-lap race covers 300 miles, with two initial stages of 65 laps each and a final stage of 70 laps.
Chandler Smith kept his streak of top-10 finishes alive last week at Martinsville with his seventh in seven starts, opening a 35-point lead over defending series champion Cole Custer in the standings. Austin Hill, who like Smith has won twice this year, is 41 points back, with rookie Jesse Love (76 points behind) and Justin Allgaier (79 points back) rounding out the top five.
