The Astros and Tigers open a three-game series at Comerica Park on Friday night.

With the visitors falling in four of their last five games heading into a three-game weekend series, the Houston Astros head to Comerica Park to face the Detroit Tigers on Friday night. Houston is having a rough start to the season, falling well below their usual standards with a 13-24 record, eight games off the pace in the AL West. The Astros are in last place in the division, with a 6-12 record on the road this season and a 5-5 mark in their last 10 games. Detroit, on the other hand, sits 4.5 games behind the Guardians in the AL Central with a 19-18 pace. The Astros will send lefty Framber Valdez to the mound against Tigers righty Casey Mize on Friday night.

Most recently, the Astros snapped a four-game losing streak to avoid a sweep with a 4-3 win over the Yankees on Thursday night. Jon Singleton and Yordan Alvarez each hit long homers in the first inning to open a 3-0 lead, with Houston closer Josh Hader earning his fourth save. 

As for Detroit, the Tigers fell in extra innings to the Guardians by a final score of 5-4 on Wednesday night. Brayan Rochhio singled home the automatic runner in the bottom of the 10th innings to give Cleveland the win.
