Houston won the first game of the series 5-2 after being shut out for the first five innings. They got on the board in the sixth inning and then opened up a lead with four runs in the top of the eighth to seal the win setting up the rubber match today.

On the mound for Houston today to try and win the series is ace Justin Verlander (1-1, 4.43 ERA) in just his fifth start of the season. So far through four starts this season Verlander has 15 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched, getting off to a slower start than usual for one of the best pitchers of this generation.

For Detroit, it counters with right-hander Jack Flaherty (0-2, 3.86 ERA). This is his eighth start of the season for Detroit with 56 strikeouts in 42.0 innings pitched giving up just 18 earned runs so far this season. Verlander and Flaherty are poised to have a great match-up on the mound today.
