The Oakland Athletics (3-7) won their first series of the season over the weekend and bring back-to-back wins to Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday night to open a three-game set with the defending World Series champion Texas Rangers (6-4). Texas got some promising news on Monday regarding injured ace Jacob DeGrom, who threw long toss as he continues to rehab from right elbow surgery last June. The Athletics, playing their 57th and final season in Oakland, will move to Sacramento for at least the next three seasons as they wait for a new ballpark in Las Vegas to be built.

The Rangers lost the final two games of a four-game series with the Houston Astros, losing the finale 10-5 on Monday night. Texas roughed up emergency starter Blair Henley, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first, capping the outburst with a two-run single by Jared Walsh.
The Athletics took two of three from the Detroit Tigers to open their six-game road trip and had an off-day on Monday. The pitching staff allowed just one run over the final two games of the series but Oakland is hitting just .212/.290/.342 through 10 games.
Nathan Eovaldi makes his third start of the season on Tuesday for Texas. He is 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 0.769 WHIP in 13 innings. Oakland gives the ball to left-hander Alex Wood for the third time. Wood is 0-1 and has allowed nine runs on 13 hits in 8.1 innings, striking out 10.
