Women’s college gymnastics showcases the Big Ten Championships first session today.
The first session of the Big Ten Championships in women’s college gymnastics gets started with the top teams and individual performers. In the first of two sessions today, teams will compete in four events with Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Nebraska, Penn State and Rutgers all looking to get off to a strong start and establish momentum here in session one. The evening session features Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota and Ohio State, the top four teams in the standings this season in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions are a team to keep an eye on in session one with the team winning three straight matches heading into the conference tournament.

In this session the teams will all compete in the vault, bars, beam and floor events to build points and try and come out of this grouping with a lead. Several of these teams feature players that were just named to the first or second team All-Conference in the Big Ten heading into the Big Ten Championships.
Ava Piedrahita on the Nittany Lions, Mia Takekawa on the Illini and Karina Munoz on the Hawkeyes were all named to the first team. All three have been terrific individual gymnasts and a major reason their teams are in contention to win the Big Ten Championships this season.
On the second team there are eight more individual gymnasts in this field of teams including Kinsey Davis and Sophia McClelland on the Cornhuskers, Maddie Komoroski and Natalie Martin on the Terrapins, Ilka Juk on the Hawkeyes, Lyden Saltness and Arielle Ward on the Illini, and Emily Leese on the Scarlet Knights.
