The New York Yankees head to the Bronx for their home opener when they host the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
The Toronto Blue Jays are simply playing the New York Yankees at an inopportune time when they start this three-game series on Friday afternoon. The Yankees look reinvigorated largely due to the signing of Juan Soto and are the league’s hottest team. New York is 6-1 heading into its home opener today. The road trip couldn’t have gone much better sweeping their arch nemesis the Houston Astros in four games and winning the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Yankees are coming off a 6-5 win in 11 innings in the rubber match against the D’Backs. Aaron Judge hit his first homer of the season in the Arizona pool and then hit an RBI double in the 11th inning to help preserve the win for New York after Arizona threatened with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Toronto is trying to get back to .500 today and didn’t have as much luck against the Houston Astros as they lost two of three in that series. The Blue Jays only scored two runs the entire series and were shut out twice with Toronto only hitting .176 collectively to start the season. That included a 8-0 loss on Wednesday in the series finale. Yordan Alvarez homered twice in the route and Cristian Javier pitched superbly going five shutout innings and only giving up one hit. This was all after the Blue Jays were no-hit in the series opener. The Blue Jays need to figure out their offense and quickly against the high-flying Yankees.
Marcus Stroman will get his first start at Yankees Stadium after coming over from the Chicago Cubs last season. In 2023, Stroman was 10-9 with a 3.95 ERA. The Blue Jays will counter with Yusei Kikuchi. Last season the lefty was 11-6 with a 3.86 ERA.
