Zach Wheeler got the start on opening day for the Phillies and pitched a strong six innings, striking out five batters in the process. It was Jose Alvarado who was credited with the loss, however, after he pitched 0.2 innings and gave up five earned runs. Offensively, the team only had five hits on the day, but showed some promise from some of last season’s big hitters. Brandon Marsh hit his first home run of the year with a two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth. The third run for the team came across the plate from a Nick Castellanos RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too late for the Phils to make a comeback.
Tune in Saturday afternoon to see if the Phillies can even the series with a win in front of a sold-out home crowd.
