    Canada looks to set up a showdown in the Group A finale against the U.S. with a victory over Czechia on Sunday at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championships

    Canada (2-0-0, 6 points) is already assured a spot in the knockout round at the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championships. The Canadians face off with Czechia (1-1-0, 3 points) on Sunday at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York, with hopes of remaining unbeaten entering Monday’s Group A finale against the unbeaten United States. Czechia is the reigning bronze medalist while Canada took silver last year on home ice in Brampton, Ontario. The Czechs earlier blanked Finland before they were shut out by the U.S. Canada comes off victories over Finland and Switzerland in its chase for a record 13th world championship gold medal.

    Emerance Maschmeyer turned aside 17 shots as Canada skated to a 3-0 victory over Switzerland on Friday. Emma Maltais got the Canadians on the board just 1:10 into the game and Sarah Nurse lit the lamp at 7:46 of the opening period. Sarah Fillier iced the game with an empty-netter in the final minute.

    Czechia ran into a buzzsaw on Friday in a 6-0 loss to the United States. The Czechs were outshot 48-19 and saw the game get away from them as the U.S. poured in three third-period goals. Adéla Å apovalivová, Klára Hymlarová and Natálie Mlýnková had a goal and an assist each in Czechia’s 4-0 opening victory over Finland.

    Czechia has won back-to-back bronze medals at the world championships, its first medals in the competition that began in 1990. Canada has a string of 22 consecutive medals in the event, with nine silvers and a bronze to go with its 12 gold medals.
