    The St. Louis Cardinals (11-11) and Houston Astros (12-14) break camp on Sunday after they face off at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in Palm Beach, Florida. The Cardinals head west to Arizona to take on the Chicago Cubs before moving on to their regular-season opener on Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Houston hosts the New York Yankees for a four-game season-opening series that starts on Thursday. St. Louis will open the season without free-agent addition Sonny Gray (hamstring) or outfielder Lars Nootbaar (ribs). Astros right-hander Justin Verlander (shoulder) is set to throw live batting practice either Monday or Tuesday and the team hopes to have him back by early next month.

    Houston slugged its way to a 13-5 win over the New York Mets on Saturday afternoon, launching six home runs. Alex Bregman swatted two of them, a pair of three-run shots in the first and fourth innings. Kyle Tucker, Shay Whitcomb, Jordan Brewer and Pedro León all cracked solo shots.

    Thomas Saggese’s double with two outs in the ninth salvaged a 2-2 tie for the Cardinals against the Washington Nationals on Saturday. Starter Miles Mikolas, who gets the ball on Opening Day, allowed a run in five innings in his final tuneup start.

    Right-hander Hunter Brown makes his final spring start for the Astros on Sunday. He has a 2.84 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 12.2 innings. Veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson has struggled this spring with a 10.80 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in 10 innings and takes the ball for St. Louis.
