Michael McDowell leads the field into the NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 today.
The 10th race in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series heads to Alabama and the Talladega Superspeedway. This is the first of two races on this track this season and the only one in the regular season. The next time the drivers will see this track is the second race of the Round of 12 in the playoffs. Michael McDowell finds himself on the pole for the third time this season and in search of his first win. He looks to join William Byron (three wins), Denny Hamlin (two wins), Daniel Suarez, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and the most recent winner Chase Elliott with a win this season.

Elliott is coming off his first win of the season and the first win in nearly two seasons for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion. Over his last three races Elliott has found himself in the top five moving him into fourth place in points this season.
The top five in points through nine races are Larson in first place with 336 total points, Martin Truex Jr. (318 points), Hamlin (3-7 points), Elliott (303 points) and Byron (297 points). Despite winning a third of the races so far this season Byron is in fifth place in points, 39 points behind the leader.
Last season on this track Ryan Blaney led the most laps with Kyle Busch winning the first race in the regular season. Joey Logano led the most laps in the playoff race on this track with Blaney closing out with the win as three drivers to keep an eye on today in the GEICO 500 race.
