    No. 4 Tennessee (29-6) saw its lead in the Southeastern Conference shrink to one game after a loss to No. 3 Georgia (31-7) on Saturday. The teams play the rubber game of the three-game weekend set at Lee Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Sunday morning. The Lady Volunteers fell to 9-2 in SEC play with Saturday’s loss while the Bulldogs improved to 7-4 in the conference. Tennessee made its first Women’s College World Series appearance in eight years in 2023 and ran its streak of consecutive NCAA tournament bids to 19. Georgia reached the super regionals a year ago and all 21 of its NCAA tourney appearances have come consecutively since 2002.

    Sarah Gordon’s solo home run in the top of the fifth broke a 2-2 tie and stood up as the game-winner in the Bulldogs’ 3-2 victory on Saturday. Emily Digby gave Georgia a 2-0 lead with a two-run triple in the second and Shelby Walters allowed one hit in 4.2 scoreless innings of relief to get the win. Jayda Kearney slashes .390/.471/.797 and leads the team with 14 home runs while Sara Mosley has a team-best 49 RBI.

    Both of the runs for the Lady Vols came in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by McKenna Gibson and a sacrifice fly from Destiny Rodriguez. Gibson hits .380/.443/.602 with a team-high 32 RBI and Kiki Milloy and Rylie West have nine home runs apiece.

    Lilli Backes leads the Bulldogs with 89.1 innings pitched, posting a 12-4 record with a 2.51 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. Karlyn Pickens has 135 strikeouts in 107.1 innings for Tennessee, going 15-3 with a 0.78 ERA and 0.73 WHIP.
