The Iowa Cubs and St. Paul Saints will meet Saturday for a minor league matchup.
On Saturday afternoon, the St. Paul Saints will host the Iowa Cubs for the fifth game of their minor league series at CHS Field. The Saints are currently in fifth place in the International League West with a record of 6-6 so far. The team is currently trailing Iowa 3-1 in the series after last night’s 6-0 loss. Despite recording seven hits in the game, the Saints were unable to get any runners home to compete with the Cubs. Yoyner Fajardo led the team at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two singles. Joe Gunkel took his first loss of the season on the mound after pitching four innings and giving up three earned runs.

The Cubs are currently leading the International League West standings with a record of 8-5 so far and are only a half-game behind Scranton Wilkes-Barre who leads the entire league. In last night’s win, the Cubs were led offensively by Luis Vazquez who went 3-for-3 with two singles and a home run in the win. Matt Mervis also hit a home run to bring two across the plate in the first inning. On the mound, Hayden Wesneski picked up his first win of the season, putting in 4.1 innings of work in which he struck out four batters and only gave up three hits.
