The red-hot New York Islanders look to continue their last playoff push when they visit the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon
After a six-game losing streak last month, the playoff hopes of the New York Islanders (37-27-15, 89 points) were slim. But six consecutive wins have the Islanders in third place in the Metropolitan Division, three points up on the Pittsburgh Penguins with three games remaining. On Saturday afternoon, the Isles go to Madison Square Garden to take on the NHL-leading New York Rangers (53-23-4, 110 points). The Rangers’ lead in the Metropolitan is down to a single point over the Carolina Hurricanes following back-to-back losses. But New York received surprising news on Friday as center Filip Chytil, declared out for the season in January, practiced and could be a playoff option.

Kyle Palmeiri ended Thursday night’s game 1:17 into overtime, with his goal lifting the Islanders to a 3-2 victory over the visiting Montreal Canadiens. Defenseman Adam Pelech had two assists and Casey Cizikas netted the equalizer 6:30 into the third. Bo Horvat paces the Isles with 33 goals while Mathew Barzal tops the club with 80 points.
The Rangers dropped a 4-1 decision to the visiting Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night as the Flyers snapped an eight-game losing streak. Artemi Panarin’s power-play goal late in the first period was the lone tally for the Blueshirts. Panarin leads the Rangers with 47 goals and 117 points.
Ilya Sorokin is 24-19-11 in net for the Islanders with a .907 save percentage and 3.02 goals-against average. For the Rangers, Igor Shesterkin is 34-17-2 with a .910 save percentage and 2.65 GAA.
