    A rivalry match will take place Tuesday night as Louisville hosts Kentucky in non-conference baseball action.

    On Tuesday night, No. 3 Kentucky will hit the road to take on Louisville in a mid-week rivalry game at Jim Patterson Stadium. The Cardinals come into the contest with an overall record of 21-14 and a conference record of 7-8 for a spot in fifth place in the ACC Atlantic standings. Over the weekend, the team forced a series tie-breaker against No. 9 Virginia after winning the second game 14-10. Louisville was able to keep the Cavaliers close until the fourth inning when they slowly began extending their lead. By the middle of the sixth, the score was 11-3 and the Cardinals couldn’t get back in the game which resulted in a 16-7 loss. Eddie King Jr. and Gavin Klein powered the Louisville offense, each hitting three-run homers, but it wasn’t enough. Carson Liggett was credited with the loss after giving up five earned runs in 2.1 innings on the mound.

    The Wildcats have been impressive this season and bring a three-game win streak into Tuesday night’s game. The team is currently leading the SEC East standings with a conference record of 14-1 and an overall record of 30-5. The team’s most recent games were played against Auburn and the Wildcats won all three with the finale being a 13-8 victory. Nick Lopez, Ryan Nicholson and James McCoy each hit home runs in the win, combining for nine RBI. Robert Hogan picked up his first win of the season with three innings of pitching in which he struck out two batters and gave up one hit.

    The record between Louisville and Kentucky currently stands at 26-26 with the last meeting being a 7-0 win for Louisville last season.
