On Thursday night, Florida will begin a road series against No. 13 Vanderbilt in Nashville as the teams look to improve their positions in the conference standings as the second half of the regular season is underway. The Gators come into this weekend’s series with an overall record of 19-17 and a conference record of 7-8 for a spot in sixth place in the SEC East standings. The team has won its last two games with the most recent being a 12-1 win over Jacksonville in seven innings on Tuesday night. Jake Celemente earned his first win of the season with two innings of work in which he struck out five batters and only gave up two hits. Tyler Shelnut had a big game offensively, leading the team with five RBI from two home runs in the win.

The Commodores dropped in the rankings this week after being swept by now No. 1 Texas A&M over the weekend. The team bounced back to beat Lipscomb on Tuesday in a big 15-4 victory in seven innings to move to 27-10 overall and 8-7 in conference play. In Tuesday’s win, Jayden Davis and Logan Poteet each finished the game with three RBI to lead the team offensively while Brennan Seiber picked up his second win of the year on the mound. Seiber struck out five batters and only gave up two hits during his three innings of throwing.
Last season, Vanderbilt and Florida played five times between regular season play and the conference tournament. Vanderbilt eliminated Florida in the SEC tournament semifinal with an 11-6 win.
