Manchester City host Arsenal in a showdown between Premier League kingpins that will massively impact the destination of this term’s title
Premier League pace-setter Arsenal can complete a home-and-away double over Manchester City for the first time in more than 15 years if it can come away from the Etihad Stadium with all three points on Sunday. Just one point separates Mikel Arteta’s first-place Gunners from Pep Guardiola’s side in third as the English top-flight approaches make-or-break status for those still hanging on in contention for the title. Arsenal hasn’t won a game at the Etihad in just short of a decade, however, and City hasn’t suffered defeat in front of its own fans in any competition since November 2022.

There’s a sense the tide is turning in Arsenal’s favor in what’s been a fairly one-sided rivalry over recent years, but Arteta & Co. Have been here before and fallen short.
Gabriel Martinelli scored in the reverse fixture to seal a 1-0 triumph for Arsenal when it hosted City back in October, meaning the north Londoners could do the league double over City for the first time since 2008:
To put that achievement into context, Emmanuel Adebayor—who would go on to play for City—and Cesc Fabregas were the men playing match-winner back then.
Furthermore, Gunners boss Arteta was still more than three years from joining Arsenal as a player (2011) at that point, while it was eight years before he started his coaching journey at City (2016).
The international break has been somewhat rough for City after Kyle Walker, John Stones, Manuel Akanji and Matheus Nunes all picked up injuries while with their national teams.
They join Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson as doubts for Sunday’s fixture, while Arsenal wingers Bukayo Saka and Martinelli are hoping to overcome setbacks of their own to feature.
