The Detroit Tigers (20-20) enter Monday night’s series opener against the Miami Marlins (11-31) with three consecutive series losses and just two wins in their last nine games. The Marlins go back on the road after dropping a three-game series at home, also with three straight series defeats and a 2-7 mark in their last nine. Miami continued its roster shuffling on Sunday, purchasing the contract of shortstop Tristan Gray from Triple-A Jacksonville and optioning right-handed reliever George Soriano to the Jumbo Shrimp. Starting shortstop Tim Anderson sat out Sunday’s win with a sore back. Detroit stands 1-2 on its current home stand.

The Tigers dropped the rubber game of a three-game set with the visiting Houston Astros 9-2 on Sunday. Kerry Carpenter slashes .274/.331/.513, Riley Greene leads the club with nine homers and Mark Canha tops the squad with 20 RBI.
Right-hander Matt Manning (0-1) is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Toledo to start Monday’s game for Detroit. In three starts, Manning has a 4.24 ERA and 1.176 WHIP in 17 innings and last pitched for the team on April 30. Right-hander Sixto Sánchez (0-1) makes his fourth start for Miami. In 10 appearances overall, Sánchez notched a 7.50 ERA and 1.667 WHIP after missing the last two seasons with injuries.
