11th-seeded NC State looks to continue its March run when it takes on No. 2 seed Marquette in a South Regional semifinal on Friday night in Dallas
NC State (24-14) needed five wins in five days just to get a ticket to the Big Dance. Now the 11th-seeded Wolfpack vie for a spot in the Elite Eight when they take on No. 2 seed Marquette (27-9) in an NCAA tournament South Regional semifinal at American Airlines Center in Dallas. NC State has run off seven consecutive wins and is in the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2015. Its last Elite Eight berth came in 1986. The Golden Eagles are in their third consecutive NCAA tourney but this is their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2013, also the last time they went to the Elite Eight.

DJ Burns Jr.’s putback with 1:59 left in overtime sparked an 11-1 run that gave the Wolfpack a 79-73 win over No. 14 seed Oakland on Saturday in Pittsburgh. Burns finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds and Michael O’Connell had 12 points and eight assists. DJ Horne scored 16.7 points per game while Burns gets 12.8 points a night and Mohamed Diarra averages 7.7 boards.
After squandering a 12-point lead, Marquette took the lead for good on Chase Ross’ 3-pointer with 2:53 to go in its 81-77 victory over 10th-seeded Colorado on Sunday. Tyler Kolek went for 21 points and 11 assists and Kam Jones added 18 points. Jones knocks down 17.1 points per game, Kolek averages 15.3 points and 7.9 assists and Oso Ighodara posts 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds.
NC State is 3-2 all-time against the Golden Eagles, last winning 77-73 on Dec. 5, 2009, in Milwaukee. The Wolfpack claimed their first national title in 1974, beating Marquette 76-64 in the national championship game.
