Big Ten baseball play continues Saturday with game two between Rutgers and Maryland.
On Saturday afternoon, Maryland and Rutgers will meet for the second game of their Big Ten series at Bainton Field. The Scarlet Knights come into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 25-20, but have struggled in conference play so far and are in 12th place in the Big Ten with a record of 3-13. In the series opener on Friday, Rutgers fell to Maryland in a tough 4-3 defeat. Ty Doucette opened the scoring for the Scarlet Knights with an RBI single in the first, but the Terps came back with four straight runs in the sixth to take the lead. In the seventh, Doucette hit an RBI double to bring the team within one, but Rutgers was unable to find the tying run and was forced to take the loss. Justin Sinibaldi dropped to 4-3 on the season after suffering the loss on the mound with five innings of work in which he struck out two batters.

The Terps are currently in ninth place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 9-10 and an overall record of 30-17. Friday night’s win was the team’s fourth in a row and it will look to keep rolling with another win on Saturday. Omar Melendez was on the mound for 6.2 innings and struck out five batters in his fourth win of the season. Eddie Hacopian powered the offense with two RBI from his double down the left-field line in the sixth inning. Sam Hojnar and Jacob Orr accounted for the other two runs with a ground out and fly out, respectively.
