This will be the first game this season between these two teams. The Mets come into this weekend with a 16-15 record just sitting over the .500 mark. They are the No. 3 team in the National League East sitting 4.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies and five games behind the divisional-leading Atlanta Braves. They split a four-game series with the Chicago Cubs winning the last game yesterday. The Rays are just on the other side of the .500 mark at 14-18 overall this season. They are the last-placed team in the American League East sitting 6.5 games behind the divisional-leading Baltimore Orioles. They lost two of three games against the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this week losing on Wednesday 7-1.

Jose Quintana will get the start on the mound for New York in this opening game. The left-hander is 1-2 this season with a 3.48 ERA and 23 strikeouts over 33.2 innings. He pitched 8.0 innings allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts in a 4-2 win against the St. Louis Cardinals at home in the 11th inning.
Aaron Civale will start the game on the mound in the top of the first inning for Tampa Bay. The right-hander is 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA and 34 strikeouts over 32.0 innings. He allowed six earned runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings in his last start against the Chicago White Sox on the road. He only struck out three batters as well.
