The Cincinnati Reds host the New York Mets in the second game of this series today.

The New York Mets (2-5) started off the season with five straight losses, but have rebounded in the last two games. They go for a third straight win against the Cincinnati Reds (4-3) and their first series win of the regular season. In the first game of the series, New York won 3-2, holding on all the way to the ninth inning for the best win of the young season. Cincinnati started off strong with a solo home run from Spencer Steer to take the lead, then New York responded with runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to sneak out with the win.

On the mound for New York as the team looks to win a second straight game is right-hander Luis Severino (0-1) who gave up three earned runs in 5.0 innings with six strikeouts in his first game of the season. He squares off with Cincinnati’s Nick Martinez (0-0) who is also looking for his first win of the season.

Jeimer Candelario brought home Jonathan India on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out to try and fuel a comeback. That run fell short for Cincinnati giving New York the first win of this series and a second straight win.

The New York offense never found any real momentum, mustering up one run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Francisco Linder and then a fielder’s choice brought home another run in the seventh. The game was decided on Jeff McNeil’s solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give New York the edge and a second straight win this season.
