Michigan takes on rival Michigan State on Saturday night in the Big Ten Hockey Tournament Championship
Michigan goes for its third straight Big Ten Hockey Tournament Championship on Saturday night when it takes on rival Michigan State. The Wolverines beat Minnesota in each of the last two title games, but will get the Spartans instead this year. The Wolverines were the lower seed against the Golden Gophers in both games and will once again be in the same position on Saturday night. The Wolverines went 1-3 against the Spartans during the regular season. They won the first game 7-1, but then lost the last three. They lost both games at home, but one the one meeting in East Lansing. They lost the one neutral site game as they fell 3-2 in Detroit.

The Spartans finished the season 23-9-3 overall and 16-6-2 in the Big Ten. That was enough for the Spartans to win the Big Ten regular season championship and grab the top seed for the tournament.
The top seed gave them a bye in the quarterfinals and then the beat Ohio State 2-1 in the semifinals to make the title game.
Daniel Russell opened the scoring with a first period goal and then after the Buckeyes tied the game Nash Nienhuis scored the game winner at 2:16 of the third, 13 seconds after the game was knotted at one.
