Minnesota will take on Saint Louis in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament championship game today. The Golden Gophers lost 15 games this season including a second-round loss in the Big Ten Tournament to Michigan to close the door on NCAA Tournament hopes. Heading to the NIT, they took on Pacific in the second round of the tournament and won by 15 points, 77-62. Sophie Hart led the team with 14 points. They moved on to take on North Dakota State in the third round and squeaked out a four-point win 69-65 led by 16 points from Grace Grocholski. Mallory Heyer also had 13 points and 12 rebounds in the win. They beat Wyoming in the quarterfinal by 11 points, 65-54, after Amaya Battle dropped 29 points with four rebounds and four assists to advance the team to the quarterfinals. They beat Troy earlier this. week by just five points to advance to the championship game. Battle again led the team with 18 points while Hart had a 12-point, 11-rebound double-double.

The Billikens lost 18 games this season and opened up NIT play in the first round against Central Arkansas winning by five points led by Peyton Kennedy who had 28 points on 17 shots. They beat Northern Iowa by four points in the second round of the tournament and Purdue Fort Worth by four points in the third round.
Their biggest opponent was in the quarterfinal where they beat the Big Ten’s Wisconsin by five points with 18 points from Kyla McMakin. In the semifinal round earlier this week, they matched up with Vermont and won by three points with a 23-point performance from Kennedy. Can Saint Louis squeak out one more win?
