    No. 2 seed Montreal fights for its playoff life on Tuesday night as it visits Boston facing elimination in the PWHL semifinals

    Third-seeded Boston returns home Tuesday night to the Tsongas Center in suburban Lowell, Massachusetts, looking to put a bow on a stunning upset of No. 2 seed Montreal in the Professional Women’s Hockey League semifinals. A pair of overtime victories in Laval, Quebec, put Boston in the driver’s seat, returning home with a 2-0 series lead. The teams split their four regular-season meetings, with two of the games going to overtime. Boston got a 3-2 OT victory at Montreal on Jan. 13, with Montreal returning the favor at Boston 2-1 on Feb. 4. Montreal recorded a home-ice win on March 2 and Boston’s 4-3 win at the Tsongas Center on May 4 secured its playoff spot and the No. 3 seed.

    Taylor Wenczkowski played the overtime hero in Game 2 at Laval’s Place Bell on Saturday, scoring 11:44 into the third overtime to lift Boston to a 2-1 victory. Amanda Pelkey opened the scoring for Boston with an unassisted tally at 6:48 of the first before Montreal tied the game early in the second. Aerin Frankel made 56 saves to earn the win in net.

    Kristin O’Neill scored her second goal of the series 1:58 into the second period to tie the game for Montreal before the game remained scoreless for the next 89:46. Ann-Renée Desbiens took her second straight playoff loss despite 50 saves.

    Frankel stopped 109 of 111 Montreal shots in the first two games, a .982 save percentage. Gigi Marvin has two assists for Boston in the series while O’Neill has scored Montreal’s only two goals, each with Maureen Murphy drawing an assist. The winner of the series faces the victory of the Minnesota-Toronto series in the finals. Minnesota remained alive with a 2-0 victory on Monday night to cut Toronto’s lead to 2-1.
