Virginia hosts last-place NC State on Friday in the opener of a 3-game weekend ACC series at Palmer Park in Charlottesville
Virginia (26-12) comes into its weekend series at Palmer Park in Charlottesville with a 9-6 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play, tied with Georgia Tech for fifth in the 13-team league. The Cavaliers host NC State (22-18), last in the ACC at 2-13, with the opener of the series set for Friday night. Virginia played in its lone NCAA tournament in 2010 and the team was 30-22 a season ago but has already exceeded last year’s total of eight conference wins. The Wolfpack haven’t gone to the NCAA tourney since 2015, when they reached their lone super regional. NC State finished 18-35 a season ago with a 6-18 ACC mark.

The Wolfpack stunned then-No. 13 Virginia Tech at home to open their weekend series before dropping the final two games. On Tuesday, NC State swept a non-conference doubleheader from Queens. Amanda Hassler hits .336/.435/.682 and shares the team lead of 10 homers with Makayla Marbury. Taylor Ensley tops the club with 30 RBI.
Eden Bigham is 11-6 for Virginia with a 2.20 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 95.1 innings while striking out 132. Madison Inscoe leads a three-arm rotation for the Wolfpack, working 70.2 innings with a 6-7 record, 3.86 ERA and 1.26 WHIP.
