No. 5 Virginia hosts top-ranked Notre Dame in an ACC regular-season finale on Saturday.

After falling in a disappointing conference loss to second-ranked Duke on the road last week, No. 5 Virginia looks to bounce back against top-ranked Notre Dame in Charlottesville on Saturday. With their only loss of the year coming in overtime at the beginning of the season, No. 1 Notre Dame has won seven consecutive games to improve to 9-1 overall with a 3-0 mark in conference play. The Irish are also a perfect 3-0 on the road this season ahead of the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Tournament next week. Fifth-ranked Virginia, on the other hand, has lost back-to-back games to drop to 10-3 overall with a 1-2 mark in ACC play. Last season, Notre Dame ended Virginia’s season in the NCAA Tournament with a 13-12 overtime victory.

Most recently, top-ranked Notre Dame cruised to a 14-6 win over North Carolina thanks to a strong second-half performance. The Kavanagh brothers led the way once again, with Pat scoring a team-high six points off two goals and four assists, while brother Chris scored three goals and added two assists. 

As for Virginia, the Hoos lost a heartbreaker in a 18-17 loss to Syracuse last Saturday. Virginia’s Jack Boyden had a shot to send the game to overtime, but his shot attempt was saved by Syracuse goaltaneder Will Mark with seven seconds remaining in the game. 

Top-ranked Notre Dame looks to finish strong against No. 5 Virginia on Saturday afternoon.
