Florida is six points up on Toronto, with Toronto having a game in hand. As the Maple Leafs try to make a late surge to catch the Panthers, they’re also trying to hold off a red-hot Tampa Bay Lightning team for the third Atlantic Division playoff spot. Tampa – which leads the Wild Card picture – is on a three-game winning streak and 8-1-1 in its last 10 games.
Tuesday night marks the third of four games between the Panthers and Maple Leafs this season. The first two games were a split, each won by the home team. The Panthers won 3-1 in Florida on Oct. 19, then a few weeks later in Toronto on Nov. 28 the Maple Leafs topped the Panthers 2-1 in a shootout.
