The Penguins lost in a shootout in the first game of the trip to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but bounced back on Monday to take down the conference-leading New York Rangers 5-2. The win was their third in the last four games and improved their record to 33-30-11 on the season. It was a much-needed win for the Penguins who are trying to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. They now sit five points back of the Detroit Red Wings and Washington Capitals for the last wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference.
