AL Central foes face off as Royals swing into the Motor City for weekend series against the Tigers
After winning back-to-back series, the Detroit Tigers come home to Comerica Park as they open a six-game home stand today in a matinee series opener with their American League Central Division rivals Kansas City Royals. Veteran right hander Seth Lugo (3-1, 2.03 ERA) will get the start for the Royals off his first loss of the season where he got roughed up allowing four earned runs over 5.1 innings in a 5-0 home loss to Baltimore on Sunday. The Tigers will counter with second year right-hander Reese Olson (0-3, 3.80 ERA) who has lost three games in a row despite allowing two runs or less in three of his first four starts this season.

Tigers left fielder Mark Canha leads the team with five home runs and 14 RBIs through his first 24 games this season. Canha, who spent seven seasons with Oakland before stints with the Mets and Brewers, comes into this game on a four-game hitting streak with two home runs and five runs batted in during this streak.
Ranked in the top 10 in Major League Baseball in batting average, home runs, and RBIs, Royals catcher Salvador Perez is on pace for his second career 100 RBI season as he has driven in 23 runs through his first 24 games. Perez, who has spent his entire career with Kansas City, is hitting a career-high .348 and has three multi-hit efforts in his last five games.
Detroit has won seven of the last eight games in this series including a sweep of a three-game set over the Royals in September 2023.
