No. 2 Stanford squares off with third-seeded NC State in a Sweet Sixteen matchup in the Portland 4 Regional at the Moda Center on Friday night
The first of two regionals at the Moda Center in Portland tips off on Friday night when second-seeded Stanford (30-5) battled No. 3 seed NC State (29-6) in a semifinal of the Portland 4 Region. It’s the first NCAA tournament meeting between the Wolfpack and the Cardinal, with each advancing to the Sweet Sixteen after winning a pair of games at home to open the tournament. Stanford is back in the Sweet Sixteen after a rare miss last year while NC State also returns after a one-year absence. The Cardinal last advanced to the Elite Eight in 2022 en route to their 15th Final Four trip while the Wolfpack were eliminated in the Elite Eight back in 2022.

Kiki Iriafen carried Stanford past stubborn No. 7 seed Iowa State on Sunday with 11 of her career-high 41 points in overtime of its 87-81 win. Iriafen added 16 rebounds and three blocks and Hannah Jump scored 15 points in the win. Iriafen averages 19.2 points and 11. rebounds, teaming with Cameron Brink’s 17.5 points and 11.9 boards per game.
NC State held off sixth-seeded Tennessee on Monday, advancing with a 79-72 win, riding a 34-8 stretch to take a 20-point lead early in the second half. Aziaha James had 22 points and seven assists while Saniya Rivers scored 20 points. James puts up 16.0 points per game, Rivers nets 12.7 points a night and River Baldwin averages 10.4 points and 7.1 rebounds.
The Cardinal are 2-1 against the Wolfpack and they haven’t met in nearly 30 years. Stanford won the last meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Dec. 3, 1994.
