A resurgent Rennes travels to Strasbourg in its first Ligue 1 fixture back after the international break
After a month without a win in Ligue 1, Rennes got its top-flight campaign back on track just prior to the recent international break and travels to Strasbourg on Sunday hoping to keep that momentum alive. Les Rouge et Noirs will also have revenge on their minds after being held to a draw when they hosted this fixture in October thanks to Leto Mothiba’s late equalizer. A timely return to winning ways could yet land Rennes a place among the European qualification places as they enter Week 27 sat eighth in the standings, while a last-minute relegation scrap can’t yet be ruled out for Les Bleu et Blanc.

Strasbourg may reside at 12th in the table for the time being, but that can all too suddenly change in Ligue 1, where just four points separate 11th and the relegation play-off place in 16th as things stand.
It would require the most nightmarish run of form for Rennes to be dragged into that mess at this stage, especially after beating Marseille 2-0 at home a fortnight ago.
That ended a run of three league outings without a win, and it was largely thanks to Martin Terrier’s superbly worked breakthrough that Julien Stephan’s side came out on top:
Despite the recent dip in form, Stephan’s takeover at Roazhon Park has been an undeniable success, with the club having recorded just two losses across their past 17 contests in all competitions.
Not only that, but Sunday will see Stephan visit a familiar setting as he takes on former employer Strasbourg, who sacked him last year following a run of just one win from 17 games.
Le Racing may well wonder what was stopping the coach from producing his current heroics while on their books, and he could now play a role in the club having a very awkward end to the season.
