André-Pierre Gignac put Tigres up 1-0 in the 18th minute of the match, while Diego Rossi equalized for the MLS club in the 43rd minute. Columbus held a slight lead in shots on target (6-5) as well as ball possession (53%-47%). Furthermore, Aidan Morris received a red card in the second half of the encounter, leaving the Crew’s starting midfielder unavailable to play in the second leg in Mexico.

Columbus followed up the meeting against Tigres with a 1-1 draw against D.C. United on Saturday at Lower.com Field. Morris scored the equalizer for the Crew in the 87th minute of the match.
Meanwhile, Tigres went on to host Pachuca at Universitario Stadium on Saturday night. The club from Monterrey lost 3-0 at home, conceding all three strikes in the second half to Salomón Rondón, Nelson Suárez and Jesús Hernández.
