Chandler Smith looks to become just the 3rd back-to-back winner at the NASCAR Xfinity Series ToyotaCare 250, with qualifying at Richmond on Saturday morning
Chandler Smith arrives at Richmond Raceway in second place in the NASCAR Xfinity Series standings after five races this season. Qualifying for the ToyotaCare 250 is set for Saturday morning with Smith vying to become just the third driver to post consecutive spring wins at the three-quarter-mile D-shaped oval. Austin Hill, who opened the season with wins at Daytona and Atlanta, leads Smith by nine points in the early-season standings and Smith clinched a provisional playoff berth by taking the checkered flag in Phoenix on March 9. John Hunter Nemechek also has a victory, winning in Las Vegas earlier this month.

With non-series driver Kyle Larson winning at Circuit of the Americas last weekend, there remain three drivers provisionally qualified for this fall’s playoffs. Defending series champion Cole Custer is 30 points behind Hill in the standings, with rookie Jesse Love fourth, 56 points back, and Riley Herbst fifth with a 57-point gap.
Hill and Smith have top-10 finishes in each race, with Hill running in the top-five in every 2024 start. Last spring at Richmond, Smith led 83 laps — including the final 12 — to clip Nemechek by 0.298 seconds at the finish.
Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin share the spring record at Richmond with three wins apiece. Brad Keselowski’s win in 2013 made him the most recent two-time winner. Sam Ard was the first to go back-to-back in 1983 and 1984, a feat matched by Harry Gant in 1991 and 1992.
