The Minnesota Twins (1-0) got off to a good start with a win in the season-opener building off of a playoff run last year. They can make it two wins in a row and pick up a win in their first series against the Kansas City Royals (0-1) today. In the first game of the series, Minnesota chipped away with runs in the first, third and ninth innings to build towards the 4-1 win over Kansas City. Royce Lewis and Maikel Garcia both went yard with solo homeruns in the first and third innings respectively to get the offense started. They closed out the win with two runs in the ninth inning on a wild pitch and a Carlos Correa single to finish off the win.

On the mound today for the second game of the series is Joe Ryan, a dynamic right-hander for Minnesota challenged by Kansas City’s right-handed veteran Seth Lugo, both looking for their first wins of the season.
Last season Minnesota won the American League Central and came up just short in the playoffs. They look to build on that momentum for another playoff run this season as the favorites in the division while Kansas City finished with the second most losses in the majors last season.
This season Kansas City is building for the future after finishing with the most losses in franchise history. The team has not had a winning record since the 2015 season, struggling to compete in the AL Central for nearly 10 straight seasons after winning the World Series.
