After a day off on Sunday, the United States and Slovakia resume their Group B schedules at Ostrava Arena in Czechia on Monday
The United States (1-1-0, 3 points) and Slovakia (1-1-0, 3 points) came back on Saturday from opening-game losses to record their first victories in Group B play at the 2024 IIHF World Championships. On Monday, the teams face off at Ostrova Arena in Czechia looking to gain a leg up in the race for a top-four finish and a spot in the knockout round of the 16-team tournament. The U.S. seeks its first medal since a bronze in 2021, losing in the third-place game each of the last two years, while Slovakia last earned hardware with a silver medal in 2012.

The United States bounced back from an opening loss to Sweden with a 6-1 thumping of Germany on Saturday. Six different players scored for the Americans, with Johnny Gaudreau of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Michael Kesserling of Utah each notching a goal and an assist. Goalies Trey Augustine of Michigan State and Alex Lyon of the Detroit Red Wings combined for 26 saves.
Martin Pospíšil of the Calgary Flames found the net twice on Saturday in Slovakia’s dominant 6-2 victory over Kazakhstan. The Slovaks outshot the Kazakhs 42-16 after losing their opener to Germany. Libor Hudáček of Czechian club Oceláři Třinec finished with a goal and two assists in the win.
Defenseman Seth Jones of the Chicago Blackhawks leads the U.S. with three points, all assists. Lyon left Saturday’s win with an injury and his status for the remainder of the tournament remains unclear. Hudáček tops Slovakia with four points, including two goals, and netminder Stanislav Škorvánek from Slovenian club Dukla Michalovce worked both games with a .811 save percentage and 3.53 goals-against average.
