Akshay Bhatia takes a 4-shot lead into Sunday’s round at the Valero Texas Open as he eyes his 1st Masters invitation
For the second straight day, Akshay Bhatia bounced back from a couple of early bogeys to finish with a four-under-par 68 at TPC San Antonio on Saturday and takes a four-shot lead into Sunday’s final round of the Valero Texas Open. Bhatia, the 22-year-old California left-hander, will clinch the final spot in next week’s Masters if he can complete a wire-to-wire victory in San Antonio. Ten years ago, he played in the Drive, Chip & Putt competition at Augusta National Golf Club, finishing sixth in the 12-13 age bracket, and would become the first participant from that event to play in the Masters. Denny McCarthy carded a 67 on Saturday and goes into the final round in solo second place at 11-under-par for the tournament.
