Akshay Bhatia takes a 5-shot lead into moving day on Saturday for the third round of the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio

Akshay Bhatia threw down the gauntlet with a nine-under-par 63 on Thursday and after a bumpy ride to a 70 on Friday takes a five-shot lead into the weekend at the Valero Texas Open. Third-round play is set for Saturday at TPC San Antonio. Bhatia, 22, joined the PGA Tour last year and recorded his lone victory to date at the Barracuda Championship last July, beating Patrick Rodgers in a playoff. This season, Bhatia missed the cut in four of nine events and came to San Antonio 55th on the FedExCup list. His tie for 11th last weekend in Houston marked his best finish of the season thus far.
