Wisconsin looks to clinch its first Big Ten series victory of the season when it takes on Rutgers on Saturday afternoon
Wisconsin (13-20) ended a three-game losing streak on Friday afternoon while earning just its second Big Ten victory of the season. On Saturday, the Badgers — 2-5 in conference play — can secure their first Big Ten series win of the season when they take on Rutgers (21-16) in the second game of their three-game set at the Rutgers Softball Complex in Piscataway, New Jersey. The Scarlet Knights fell to 3-4 in the Big Ten with the loss and hope to end a 30-year NCAA tournament drought this season. Wisconsin last played in the NCAA tourney in 2022 but has never advanced past regional play.

The Badgers took control of Friday’s game on Hilary Blomberg’s three-run homer in the third inning, grabbing a 3-1 lead en route to a 5-2 victory. Blomberg added a sacrifice fly in the fifth. She slashes .365/.407/.514 while Emmy Wells leads the team with nine homers and 20 RBI.
Rutgers took a 1-0 lead in the first on Payton Lincavage’s RBI double and Morgan Smith singled home a run in the fifth. Smith hits .425/.471/.875 and leads the squad with 13 home runs and 43 RBI.
Tessa Magnanimo improved to 6-9 on Friday and leads Wisconsin with 97 innings pitched, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. Mattie Boyd paces the Scarlet Knights, working 109.1 innings with an 11-6 record, a 2.69 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
