The women’s doubles final at the Miami Open features the second-seeded team in the tournament today.
Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands have the opportunity to defeat the top two seeded teams in women’s doubles on their way to a title at the Miami Open. Earlier in the tournament they defeated the top-seeded team of Elise Mertens and Hsieh Su-wei, now they take on the second-seeded team of Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the women’s doubles final of the Miami Open. The team of Kenin and Mattek-Sands entered the tournament unseeded and with no pressure as they ran through the competition, winning three of four matches in three sets after losing the first set showing resilience and resolve.

In the semifinals Kenin and Mattek-Sands lost the first set in a tiebreaker, then controlled the rest of the match winning 6-4 and 10-1 to advance to the finals of the WTA women’s doubles tournament.
Throughout the tournament, Kenin and Mattek-Sands have gone 8-3 overall in sets, 72-55 in games. In the quarterfinals they fell behind 6-1 in the first set before coming back 6-4 in the second set and 11-9 in the third and final set to come away with the upset of the top-seeded team in the tournament.
The team of Dabrowski and Routliffe won their first two matches in straight sets before back-to-back matches that went to a third and final set. In the semifinals they dropped the first set in a tiebreaker before coming back in the second and third sets to win the match and advance to the championship match today.
