The Arizona Rattlers (7-3) are chasing the Bay Area Panthers in the Western Conference standings and the defending Indoor Football League champions are at home on Saturday night to host the Tucson Sugar Skulls (3-6) at Desert Diamond Arena in the Phoenix suburb of Glendale, Arizona. The Rattlers are coming off back-to-back losses while Tucson has lost three straight games. Arizona’s championship in 2024 was its second since joining the IFL in 2017 following the demise of the Arena Football League, where it won seven Arena Bowl titles. The Sugar Skulls joined the IFL in 2019 and have made three playoff trips, most recently in 2023.

The Rattlers fell into an early hole and never recovered in a 54-48 loss at the Jacksonville Sharks on June 7. Dalton Sneed threw two inteceptions, including a pick-six, while Ron Brown Jr. had a big game on the ground with 97 yards on 14 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Corey Reed Jr. scored four touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving.
Tucson dropped a 58-42 decision on June 7 to the visiting San Diego Strike Force after trailing 27-0. Jorge Reyna finished 23-of-31 for 247 yards and five touchdowns but also threw a pick-six, with four of the scoring tosses going to Larry Harrington, who had 10 grabs for 95 yards.
While Arizona leads the league in total offense at 268.1 yards per game and ranks second at 49.6 points a contest, the Sugar Skulls have allowed 43.1 points per game and a loss puts them in danger of falling out of the playoff race. The teams have split two previous meetings this season, with the Rattlers taking a 56-28 win at home on March 30 and Tucson claiming a 42-35 homefield win on May 3.
