The other six drivers in the Fast 12 include Felix Rosenqvist, Santino Ferrucci, Takuma Sato, Pato O’Ward, Rinus VeeKay and Ryan Hunter-Reay who are all vying to start the race as favorites with their performance in qualifying here today.
So far in qualifying rows 5-10 have been filled with the first 18 drivers. The first four rows will be filled in qualifying with the Fast 12 drivers all vying for the first row to start the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500 this year.
Last year this race was won by Newgarden for the first time in his career. He is in a great position to become just the 21st driver to win the Indianapolis 500 multiple times and the first to go back-to-back since Helio Castroneves won back-to-back races in 2001 and 2022. Castroneves qualified 20th this year and is in Row 7 as the legend goes for what would be a record fifth win in the Indianapolis 500.
